Cayman Islands

A British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands is made up of three uniquely different islands. It is best known for its beach resorts, scuba diving, and deep-sea fishing opportunities as well as unique and threatened wildlife. In addition to tourism, financial services are a major component of the economy.

Trademark Rights

Trademarks and service marks are eligible for registration in the Cayman Islands. The following rules and regulations apply:

  • Prior Use: None required 

  • Classification: Nice Classification

  • Registration term: 10 years from the date of filing 

  • Annual fees are paid each year to maintain a registration in good standing

Extension of Rights

Caymanian trademarks were based on UK or EUTM extensions until 2017. The system is now an entirely local one, with existing registrations converted to the local system automatically.
