Patrick Hely, Esq.

Member

Patrick brings a uniquely creative perspective to Caribbean IP’s practice. As a thoughtfully inventive intellectual and a solutions-oriented lawyer, Patrick has developed an active opposition and enforcement practice, which relies heavily on his tenacity to get at the issues, look at them from every possible angle, and come up with an imaginative yet practical response. He is a true intellectual whose focus and persuasiveness are a winning strategy for Caribbean IP’s clients.

Prior to joining Caribbean IP as a member in 2016, Patrick held a clerkship with the Hon. Lanny King of the United States District Court  for the Western District of Kentucky. This experience in litigating business matters, including intellectual property, has proven a valuable asset in balancing the firm’s prosecution practice with critical enforcement strategies. One of Patrick’s first examinations of intellectual property was a paper he’d written on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) efforts to improve access by the visually impaired to copyrighted works – in it he proposed a market-based alternative.

During law school, Patrick was an engaged student and volunteered as treasurer for Vanderbilt Intellectual Property Association and earned a position on the Vanderbilt Moot Court Board based on his performance in an intramural moot court competition. He also served as executive editor of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law.

In his spare time, Patrick enjoys SCUBA diving, board games, reading, and actively follows the Vanderbilt University Commodores.
