Katherine Van Deusen Hely, Esq.

Founding Member

Katherine is a disciplined and dedicated intellectual property professional. With a results-driven style and a can-do approach to challenges, Katherine is refreshingly likeable and authentic and a reliable, knowledgeable partner to the clients she serves.

Daily, her strengths lie in her ability to distill complex transactional matters into straightforward strategies that marry her client’s complex and diverse business goals and needs with the varying intricacies of trademark rules and regulations in the jurisdictions she serves. As founding member of Caribbean IP, Katherine ensures her firm’s brand of service matches the passionate, responsive, and kind approach she has honed for more than a decade practicing intellectual property law – trademarks, patents, and copyrights – in the Caribbean region.

Katherine’s interest in the intersection of intellectual property and the law started early. As a law student, Katherine worked in Vanderbilt University’s Intellectual Property and the Arts Clinic and interned at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, where she provided research on various topics. She also spent summers working with George C. J. Moore, her cousin and an experienced, well-known lawyer practicing IP law in the Caribbean. Katherine joined George’s firm full-time upon her admission to the Florida Bar. After his passing in 2013, Katherine became the sole attorney serving the firm’s clients while building a practice of her own assisting international law firms and multinational companies with their IP interests and issues in the region.

Having honed her skills in George’s unique practice, Katherine decided to found her own firm in 2014. Here, she continues to serve a varied group of intellectual property clients in a range of matters and has received numerous awards and recognition of her work and expertise.

In her spare time, Katherine enjoys spending time with her family, staying well with plyometric and boot-camp style workouts, and volunteering in her local community.
